I don’t want to tell you what to do, but – If you haven’t yet – you have to read the Behavioural Insights Team’s (AKA the Nudge Unit’s) EAST framework. Sure, advertisers have been doing this stuff for ages, but this is influence being applied and measured on a genius and simple, almost for-dummies level. It’s easy to grasp, remember and apply. We at UNO do this in a slightly different order, but the core approach is the same. The process is one of trial and error; failing and learning until you find success. It goes a little something like this.

1. Define the outcome
2. Understand the context
3. Build your intervention
4. Learn, test and adapt

These learnings are an effective way for a business to know what to measure – be it growth, success, conversion, or whatever; then building an intervention to improve that thing; once tested with a control, measure the intervention back against the baseline. Repeat until success is found.
